Peter Phillips - Original works Biography

Known for his vibrant paintings, collages, sculptures and multimedia works, Phillips drew inspiration from American popular culture, advertising and consumer imagery. After receiving a Harkness Fellowship in 1964, he moved to New York, where he exhibited alongside leading American Pop artists including Andy Warhol, Roy Lichtenstein and James Rosenquist.

Throughout a career spanning more than six decades, Phillips exhibited internationally and was the subject of major retrospectives at institutions including the Tate Gallery and the Walker Art Gallery. His work is held in significant public and private collections worldwide, with more than thirty prints in the Tate collection.

After living in England, the United States, Switzerland, Spain and Australia, Phillips continued to paint and exhibit internationally until his death on the Sunshine Coast, Queensland, in 2025. His legacy endures as one of the original and most distinctive voices of the Pop Art movement.
