Forward Gallery is pleased to announce the availability of a signed 1953 charcoal drawing by Frank Auerbach, titled Seated Nude – May 1953, along with an associated studio sketch on the verso. Both drawings are signed by the artist, a rarity among his working studies, and the verso study strongly relates to Auerbach’s E.O.W. Nude (1953–54, Tate).
The front drawing bears gallery labels from Beaux Arts Gallery and Marlborough Gallery, adding provenance and confirming its exhibition history. Together, the drawings offer a unique insight into Auerbach’s process-driven approach, his exploration of abstraction, figuration, and the psychological presence of his sitter.
Forward Gallery continues to build a programme of historically significant works, alongside contemporary artists whose practice is expected to endure. Looking ahead, the gallery will also be offering original works by Pablo Picasso and Joan Miró, reflecting its commitment to museum-quality art in Birmingham.
Collectors and institutions can view full PDF information sheets for each work via our office.
